About Terence Tan Peng Hor (Born 1970, Singapore)

Graduated from Singapore Polytechnic with a Diploma in Electronics Engineering in 1990. Terence is a self-taught professional photographer since 2007.

In his limited-edition print artworks, Terence hopes to draw the viewer into a world of ongoing equilibrium, juxtaposing urban structures, streetscapes and human activities, often resulting in an abstraction. Nothing in his artworks seems to keep still, always in a state of flux, mirroring the interconnected, ever-changing surroundings that we experience every day. His works establish a link between the landscape’s reality and that imagined.

Emphasising aesthetics, he focuses on the idea of ‘public space’ and more specifically on the idea that beauty exists everywhere. His artistic visions are reconstructed to the extent that meaning is shifted and possible interpretation becomes multifaceted. Rather than presenting a factual reality, an illusion is created to conjure the realms of our imagination.

Artist Statement
My works endeavour to capture the beauty in everyday life, finding the "decisive" moment through society's daily routine. Making images that elevate its subject or context from the mundane to the extraordinary, injecting new life and significance to the subject. Using layers and juxtaposing images to create beautifully composed artworks with a painterly eye, I often exhaust a subject that others might find ordinary or uninspiring.
